Candida

Treatments for Candida

There are five main treatments which are usually combined together to achieve the best results. A sugar and yeast-free diet is very useful and literally starves out the Candida whilst reducing cross-sensitivity between dietary yeast and the Candida organism. Anti-fungal therapy can be based on conventional drugs or herbal remedies and, in chronic cases, will need to be taken for at least four to six months initially. Probiotics (‘good bugs’) help to re-colonize the bowel and restore the normal balance. Nutritional deficiencies include Vitamins A, B2, B5, B6, B12, C and E as well as selenium, magnesium, zinc, iron, molybdenum, chromium, arginine and evening primrose oil and these can all be treated with appropriate supplements. Immunotherapy using Candida antigenic extracts have been shown to be helpful, different practitioners employing a variety of techniques.
Other methods include acupuncture which probably works by stimulating the immune system and homeopathy, using a constitutional remedy or potentized Candida nosode which can also be very effective. A combination of the above techniques is probably best.
