Established
in 1982, the Centre for Complementary and Integrated Medicine is a specialist
complementary medical clinic treating both private and NHS patients. Using
treatments such as homeopathy, acupuncture, herbal medicine and nutritional
medicine we can help with a wide range of conditions including allergies,
Candida, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome,
migraine and thyroid disease.
Complementary medicine, also known as Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), involves several different types of treatment or therapy. Each of our doctors is skilled in a range of different complementary therapies. This multi-disciplinary approach allows us to provide patients with the most suitable therapy (or combination of therapies) for their healthcare needs. By taking the time to talk through your individual condition, your doctor will be able to identify the therapy best suited to helping you.
All doctors and nurses at the CCIM are fully qualified in conventional medicine. Their expertise ensures that you will always be in safe medical hands.
This website describes the work of the Centre, but also contains much useful information. Within the site you will find detailed information on a range of complementary therapies, and also on particular medical conditions which can be treated by complementary medicine.
What problems can we help with?
Improving research into treatments for Back Pain: Can you help?
Researchers at the University of Southampton are looking to improve the way that questionnaires can be used to measure the effectiveness of treatments or therapies for back pain. We would like to know whether a new Internet version of a tried and tested back pain questionnaire could be used alongside traditional pen and paper questionnaires in future studies.
Graham Lewis, a medical student at the University of Southampton is hoping to answer this question. He is running a study which involves completing a short, simple questionnaire on the Internet and on paper. It will take as little as ten minutes to take part. He is looking for adults who currently suffer with Back Pain and who would be able to complete this short questionnaire online as well as on paper. If you are interested in taking part please contact Graham to request an invitation pack by writing to: Graham Lewis, 4th Year Student, Primary Medical Care, Aldermoor Health Centre, Aldermoor Close, Southampton FREEPOST SO165WB or by email: backpq@soton.ac.uk
The study runs until 1st April 2008.
