Conditions which can be treated by Complementary and Integrated Medicine

Migraine

Treatments for Migraine

Conventional treatment is drug based either as prevention or for acute episodes. Some of these have been associated with serious side-effects in the past.
The most effective treatments in our hands involve identification and avoidance of food triggers (clinical ecology), acupuncture, homeopathy and herbal medicine. Manipulation has some evidence of benefit and relaxation techniques have also been shown to be effective.
Food exclusion techniques will have long term benefit in 85% of patients and 60% of patients treated by acupuncture show some improvement. There is one good clinical trial which demonstrates significant benefit using classical homeopathy and another showing that the herbal medicine feverfew can reduce the number of migraines in a significant number of patients.
We use a combination of these techniques to try and achieve the best result for each patient.
