Anti-Candida Regime
You may be advised to follow all or part of this regime. As a general rule try to drink at least two litres of water per day, particularly while on this regime.
STAGE 1: Cleansing with Ozovit, and anti-candida diet
The anti-candida diet aims to remove the foods from your diet that encourage candida growth. If recommended by the doctor, it should be followed until the doctor advises on the reintroduction of foods.
Ozovit prepares your body for the rest of your treatment by reducing the number of intestinal germs. A typical course of Ozovit lasts between 7-10 days.
The aim is to create loose stools and more frequent bowel movements, but at a level that is still compatible with daily life/work. It may take a day or two to establish an effective level for you. The important thing is to gradually establish an effective level then maintain the effect for a full 7 days to thoroughly cleanse the gut.
Take the Ozovit according to the instructions below. DO NOT take any of the other medicines supplied during this stage. The Ozovit comes with a measuring spoon; one measure is equivalent to half a teaspoon (2.5 mls).
Instructions:
- Day 1: Take one measure dissolved in a glass of water twice a day, the first after breakfast and the second after your evening meal. If this level of Ozovit successfully creates loose bowel movements, continue with it for 7 days. If not, then continue as below:
- Day 2 (to be followed only if above dose was not successful): Take one measure dissolved in a glass of water 3 times a day, the first after breakfast, the second after lunch, and the third after your evening meal. If this level of Ozovit still does not have the desired effect, continue to take it a maximum of 3 times a day after meals, but increase the breakfast dose to two measures (equivalent to one teaspoon/5 mls) in a glass of water.
- You can increase each dose in turn up to a maximum of two measures after each meal to achieve the desired effect. Once a good effect is achieved maintain in for 7 days.
- In the unlikely event that the maximum dose of six measures per day (3 teaspoons) still does not have the desired effect, please call the practice nurse for advice. DO NOT take more.
- After achieving and maintaining the effect for 7 days, stop the Ozovit and start the other medication in Stage 2 as prescribed.
- If diarrhoea becomes severe, or stomach cramps occur, stop for 48 hours, then restart at a lower dose
STAGE 2 :Eradicating candida and dealing with “die off” symptoms
This consists of three types of medicine, which should be taken together following completion of stage one.
- A herbal medicine to kill off the candida which may be one of the following: Horopito and Aniseed / Citricidal / Can1 / Can1E / Nystatin.
- A mixture of low potency homeopathic drops which contain various ingredients designed to support the liver and pancreas and encourage the kidneys to clear the toxins released by the candida. This will typically contain: Lycopodium / Phaseolus / Cantharis.
- Probiotics – these are “good bugs” to repopulate the bowel following the elimination of the candida. This will be one of the following: Bio-Acidophilus, Hylak or Ecologic
STAGE 3: Improving nutrition
Usually occurs after 2nd visit to doctor. Nutritional supplements may be added in while continuing stage 2 medicines. These may include magnesium (MGP), vitamin B50, zinc or multivitamins.
Please note that any diets and dietary advice in the Patient Guidance section of our website are only intended for the patients attending our own clinics in Southampton and London. These diets are based on a recommendation made by one of the Centre doctors after an appropriate consultation. Our advice relating to use of a particular restricted diet is really only appropriate for individual patients who have consulted us and have been individually assessed by one of the doctors from the Centre and advised that they should follow a particular dietary regime. We do not recommend that people use restricted diets without proper medical supervision. We also recommend to our patients that they should not use a restricted diet for more than 6 weeks in the first instance without further consultation with us, as it may result in nutritional deficiencies. Sometimes food exclusion diets may be clinically effective in the long term, but their management will require a balanced nutritional approach.
We hope that visitors to our website who are not our patients will find much to interest them in this website; we aim to present useful, practical, considered and authoritative information on Complementary and Integrated Medicine. We strongly advise that you should not follow a restricted diet without proper medical supervision by a qualified practitioner.
